The Degree

The Physiotherapist's intervention process involves interaction with other health professionals, as well as with patients/users, their families, and caregivers.

The Physiotherapist's intervention process involves assessment skills and the formulation of a diagnosis, from which specific objectives and intervention strategies are established. This process requires interaction with other health professionals, as well as with patients/users, their families, and caregivers. The intervention employs specific educational and therapeutic strategies primarily focused on movement, exercise, functionality, manual therapies, and the use of physical and natural environments.

A Physiotherapist is a healthcare professional who provides services to individuals and populations with the goal of maximizing movement potential and functionality, thereby promoting quality of life throughout the entire life cycle. This is especially important in situations where movement, function, and social participation are compromised due to aging, injury, illness, or environmental and personal factors, always taking into account the needs of the individual.

The curricular design comprises several teaching and learning strategies, highlighting the Learning in Real Context (internship) carried out in hospitals, health centers, clinics, sports clubs, rehabilitation centers, etc. Carried out throughout the course, the internship is guided by Physiotherapists with recognized professional experience, who constitute the body of clinical educators, together with the internal teaching staff of the Physiotherapy Department at ESSALCOITÃO. It also provides skills gains at an international level, through the European mobility program ERASMUS+.
